Sikhs. He was especially upset that even some Muslims respected
the Guru.
One event that might have led to Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Shaheedi
could have been that once Khusro, son of Jahangir rebelled
against his father’s terrible policies. He escaped with his life to
Guru Arjan Dev Ji who blessed him. When Jahangir heard of
Guru Ji’s support for his son, he was enraged. Jahangir also
forcefully ordered Guru Ji to add and change some verses in
Guru Granth Sahib but Guru Ji denied by saying that the Guru
Granth Sahib is God’s revealed Bani (Dur kI bwxI), It’s authentic; it
can’t be changed, not even a word can be added in it in the
praise of anyone. Then Jahangir ordered that Guru Ji be fined
heavily. When Guru Ji refused to pay the fine, Jahangir
ordered that Guru Ji be arrested, tortured and killed.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji was arrested and brought to Lahore. He
was tortured for many days. One day a huge fire was lit. A big
iron plate was placed on the fire. On the other side, sand was
heated in a big cauldron. Still on another fire, a big pot of
water was being boiled. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was ordered to sit
on the hot plate. Scoops of hot sand were poured on his head.
Not only that, he was then asked to get into the pot of boiling
water. His body was burned and blistered. To torture him even
more, Guru Ji was taken to Ravi River and forced to jump in.
